Hats

The most famous 1940s men's hat is the fedora (fuh-DOR-a), shown above. They can be made of wool felt, woven fabric, even straw. This type of hat is worn with "regular" suits.

On the other hand, the tando (TAHN-doe) is worn with the zoot suit. There are two main kinds of tando (sometimes simply called the "zoot suit hat"): one kind is shaped rather like a fedora, except that the brim is much larger--the first examples below--and the other kind has a flat brim, a flat top and a groove around the top edge--the last example below.
